Red Hot Pokers

I took these photos up in Mayhill the other day. What a great name for this, huh? The plant is really called a Torch Lily which is also a good description. Mayhill's altitude has these just now blooming. They bloomed down in the floor of the basin about 2 months ago. The altitude changes rapidly here and makes a big difference. I notice my plants bloom about 1-2 weeks before the ones in La Luz, just 7 miles away but about 300 feet difference in altitude. La Luz blooms a week before Tularosa and so on. Alamogordo is 4,200 feet above sea level and Mayhill is 6,700. Cloudcroft is in between the two at almost 9,000.
