Another blast from the past! In the 1960's and before, I am sure...this was a drive in. Reminds me of Al's on Happy Days. It was called the Red Rooster and the sign was shaped like a rooster. I remember booths around the inside and sitting there getting a hot chocolate once.
It is a thrift store now, and the rooster, alas gone.
UPDATE~ Found this old photo of the Red Rooster!
And the Rooster crowed at lunch and dinner time loud enough to hear across town.
ReplyDeleteI had been told the rooster crowed, but did not remember it myself!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Tularosa in the 60's. After I got my driver's license, driving to Alamogordo was really a big deal and driving around the Red Rooster was a very cool thing to do. Lots of fond memories!
ReplyDeleteI was stationed Holloman AFB in 1963 -1964. lots of us hung out there for fun, good food & picking up drag races. At night with all the neon lights it was like being in a rock n roll movie. Great memories .
ReplyDeleteDad was one of the rocket guys out at Holloman AFB during the mid-fifties. After work he and the others would stop here and grab a bite. While talking they would start writing on the table cloths. Soon everything was covered in classified information. The Red Rooster and the Air Force had a deal: An airman would gather all the classified linen, take it to the base, copy the diagrams, launder it and return it the next day. For a treat they would bring the kids to the restaurant.
