Mountain prayers

I mentioned the trains looking like prayer flags ant this is what I meant. I took these up in the mountains one day outside of Cloudcroft.

New Mexico Glory

My friend said I don't have enough photos of the raw desert around here and what we see daily. Well, here are a few that exemplify our surroundings here in the basin..... Once you get out of town these are common.. The turkey vultures on the gate...

Rest area. Well, hey it provides what we need most. Shade!

Train! I love the trains streaming across the desert. When you see one with cars of different colors and see it in the distance, it looks like prayer flags stretched along the horizon.

Windmills

It was a gorgeous day for windmills! I snapped these two near Carrizozo, one just south and one to the northwest of town. They are disappearing from our landscape abandoned mostly, some with just a tower to tell you what once was there.

These two are in good shape and this one still has the cattle pens around it.

Little Red School House

Ok, I have to say I have been gone a few days. I went out of town, but I got lots of great blog pictures! This is once again at Three Rivers. This old school house is just behind the old trading post/bar. It used to accomodate the children from the ranchers in the area. At one point in the 1970's a couple of guys thought it would be a good idea to haul the trunk of a mature (dead) cottonwood into the building. It is still there. So in the small one room of the schoolhouse you walk around the massive tree... It sold recently, I have no idea of the current owners plans. I will do some research and see what I can find out about the history.

Luckily, the building itself is not in bad shape and has been painted over the years. I think it is so cute. Long gone are the days of the one room school.

This building sits behind the old school house and if you look closely, it says Jail with an arrow on the left, and Church with and arrow on the right. Who knows what it was originally.

Tulie Creek

I took a drive up to a place on Tulie creek today. The creek runs year round and is an oasis in the desert that is not visible from the road.

It is north of the highway and flows from the mountains. The spot I was at had this great flat area that is perfect for sitting up a chair and watching the water. It is low right now because we haven't had any rain, but it is quiet and serene here at the waters edge.

1928 International One Ton

This truck belongs to George and Marianne at Eagle Ranch. They restored it and display it for people to see. Most days you can see it parked out in front of Eagle Ranch Pistachios.

George drove this truck as a child on the farm in Nebraska. They brought it here and restored it. I love being able to see and touch the past.

Rainbow

This was a typical shower, black over the mountains, and sunny over the basin. I caught the beginning of this rainbow and the faintest hint of the double one.
